Born in the historic Black community of Texana, North Carolina, LaKisha Blount explores the essence of her experiences and generational stories of Black mountain life in Appalachia through her figurative oil paintings. Using bold colors, gritty textures of layered paint, and intricate markings, Blount aims to capture the raw emotion and beauty of everyday life. Her canvases are a nostalgic representation of the people and moments that shape her world - both real and imagined.
“My work is a tribute to the vibrant culture and rich heritage that influence my artistry.”
- LaKisha Blount
